The island is connected to the continent by four shipping companies: the Toremar, the Blue Navy, the Moby Lines and the Corsica Ferries that make daily trips between Piombino and Portoferraio (the Toremar also towards Rio Marina, the Moby Lines also towards Cavo).

The duration of the crossing takes about 40/60 minutes. The Toremar also runs some races with a hydrofoil (30 ') for the Cavo and Portoferraio.
